He is best known for his involvement in the development of the WordPress CMS.
Matt Mullenweg and the first version of WordPress
He was born on the 11th. January 1984 in Houston. As a student at the University of Houston, he noticed that the b2 / cafelog blog system had been released under the freely available GNU General Public License.
He started developing a new system on the code base of this blogging system. Mike Little joined him a little later. The two developers then created the first version of WordPress together.
At that time, Movable Type – a popular blogging system – became more expensive, so users started looking for something new. Many of them have just tried WordPress. WordPress 1.5, released in February 2005, already had more than 900,000 downloads.
Matt and Automattic
Matt Mullenweg has worked for CNET since October 2004. Here he helped run a site built on WordPress. In October 2005, he began working full-time for WordPress.
This year, the Akismet plugin also saw the light of day, and at the end of 2005 Automattic was founded. In January 2014, Matt Mullenweg became CEO of Automattic.
