Domains and hosting without ads – what exactly are they and where to get them?

The world of domains and hosting services is really wide.

Some domain providers will help you register your domain for free… others for a fee.

With free domain registrars, however, there is a small catch – in addition to technical limitations, you may also encounter the fact that you will have to have (and especially unwanted) advertisements placed on your own website together with the domain.

So in this article, we’re going to look at how to find ad-free domain providers, go over their pros and cons, and also look at which of these providers might be the “right nut” for you.

domain and hosting without ads

What is an ad-free (and free) domain?

An ad-free (and sometimes free) domain is basically a domain where you don’t have to display ads on your website as a form of compensation, so you can keep your website clean and spam-free.

In certain cases, it is also possible to find free domains without advertising – this solution is very attractive for many people, because they do not have to deal with fees and advertisements, which can be very annoying for web visitors and which ultimately devalue your online shop, blog or another website.

What are the pros and cons of ad-free domains?

Main advantages:

  1. No advertising – perhaps the most important advantage is that you don’t have to post any ads on your website as a form of compensation for using the given domain. Many domain providers offer free domains, which may sound tempting, but in practice you have to hang ads on your site in return, thus spoiling the UX (User-experience) on the web. With domains without advertising, you can avoid this and keep your website “clean”, so to speak.
  2. Relatively simple registration – you can usually register a domain without advertising in a few minutes (or a few clicks). Thanks to this, you can start creating a website almost immediately after registration.
  3. Simple web creation – domain registration without ads is ideal especially for people who don’t have too much experience with web creation, or just need to create a few web pages as quickly as possible.
  4. Price (sometimes) – in certain cases you can find domain providers that offer them not only without advertising, but also completely free. In practice, this means that you do not have to pay any registration fees.

Main disadvantages:

  1. Limited features – most ad-free domain providers offer only basic features and services with them. For those who need more than just a domain and simple management, a paid domain might be a better choice, offering more features and better support for your website.
  2. Weak (or non-existent) technical support – very poor technical support is a frequent phenomenon for domains without advertising. In short, the providers of such domains do not have good support in case of a technical problem with your domain (and with domains that are completely free, no reason).
  3. No Ownership Rights – Most ad-free domain providers retain ownership rights over the domain. This means in practice that if you decide to switch to a paid domain (e.g. for better services), it can be difficult to get the rights to own and use it. In addition, with domains without advertising, you have to “live with the knowledge” that the given domain can be taken from you by its owner at any time.
  4. Unprofessional impression – While you can’t have high expectations with free ad-free domains, it’s important to remember that the services around it, the support and the overall features associated with it simply won’t be as professional as it is with paid domains.

How to choose a domain provider?

a) Functions – first of all, see what you get with the domain. Consider what functions and services the domain manager provides – such as tools for creating websites, e-mail addresses, databases, etc.

b) Security – good security should be a matter of course these days. For this reason, check whether and what kind of security the given domain provider has available (e.g. SSL certificate, data backup, etc.).

c) Technical support – as we mentioned before, ad-free domain providers often have very poor technical support. For this reason, look at and compare several providers and think about what options you would have with a given provider in the event of a technical problem.

d) Reviews – last but not least, it is always good to look at the reviews of other users with the given provider, or their personal experiences.
