My rating: 7.9/10. GoDaddy is a solid choice for domains, straightforward business websites and customers who want everything in one ecosystem. For long-term hosting, however, you need to calculate renewal prices, optional services and the differences between standard cPanel hosting and managed WordPress.

What is GoDaddy?

The main benefit of the ecosystem is integration. A single account can manage domains, DNS, hosting, WordPress, Microsoft 365 email, SSL, security, Website Builder, payments and marketing. For beginners, this may be easier than combining several unrelated providers.

The broad portfolio also creates complexity. Domains, cPanel hosting, managed WordPress, Website Builder and Microsoft 365 use different dashboards and workflows. When ordering, check exactly which product is in the cart, what is included and how much it will cost at renewal.

GoDaddy is not only a registrar. WordPress can run on standard Linux hosting with cPanel or on a separate managed platform. Technical users can choose Linux or Windows VPS, root access, optional cPanel or Plesk and data-centre regions in Europe, North America and Asia.

Pricing and plans

Shared web hosting is the cheapest option for simple company websites, blogs and smaller projects. It includes cPanel, NVMe storage, unmetered data transfer, automatic daily backups, a domain with eligible annual plans, 24/7 support and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Economy looks inexpensive, but its monthly equivalent rises from €2.19 to €10.99 after the first year. The plan supports one website and includes 25 GB of NVMe storage. The product card describes the free SSL certificate as included for the first year, so check the continuing SSL terms before renewal.

Deluxe is more practical for multiple websites, with 10 sites, 50 GB of NVMe storage and unlimited SSL. Ultimate increases capacity to 25 sites and 75 GB. All plans use shared resources, so the advertised website count is not a performance guarantee for demanding applications.

Automatic backups on standard hosting can restore the complete account from the previous day. This is not the same as a longer managed WordPress backup history. For an important website, I recommend maintaining an independent external backup as well.

Managed WordPress

Managed WordPress is a better choice for users who want automatic updates, server optimisation, a security firewall, malware scanning and removal and easier migration. Higher plans add staging, CDN, SEO tools, WooCommerce and development features.

Basic suits a blog or smaller business WordPress site. It includes pre-installed WordPress, automatic updates, SSL, security and migration. The 10 GB storage allowance may be restrictive for a website with a large image library or local backup files.

Deluxe adds staging, CDN, SEO Optimizer and 20 GB of storage. Staging is valuable for safely testing plugin updates, theme changes and code modifications. Ultimate supports three websites and adds WooCommerce, priority support, PHP controls, Object Cache Pro, performance monitoring and Git.

The €24.99 monthly renewal price of Ultimate places it in competition with premium specialist WordPress hosts. Its value depends on whether you use the WooCommerce, caching and development tools rather than choosing it only for the introductory discount.

VPS hosting

GoDaddy VPS is intended for administrators, developers and projects requiring dedicated resources, root access and a custom server configuration. The smallest Linux VPS starts at €8.49 per month on a three-year term and renews at €13.99, with 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 40 GB NVMe.

Higher plans provide up to 32 cores, 128 GB RAM and 1.5 TB of NVMe storage. Linux, Windows, cPanel/WHM and Plesk options are available. A self-managed VPS requires experience with security, operating-system updates, firewalls, monitoring and incident response.

VPS plans include KVM virtualisation, DDoS protection, monitoring, alerts and snapshots. Control-panel licences and full server administration may cost extra, so compare the total managed-server price rather than only the base VPS rate.

Features and specifications

GoDaddy combines cPanel, NVMe storage, automatic backups, SSL, global data centres, migration, WordPress tools and continuous support. The feature set varies considerably by product. Standard hosting offers more manual control, while managed WordPress provides greater automation and security.

cPanel and hosting management

Standard web hosting uses cPanel for files, databases, domains, email accounts, cron jobs, DNS and applications. GoDaddy uses CloudLinux, CageFS isolation and limits for CPU, RAM and disk operations. Selected plans can add more resources.

cPanel knowledge is portable, and many guides written for other providers also apply. The disadvantage is the number of interfaces: customers move from the main account to the hosting dashboard and then to cPanel. This workflow can be less intuitive for complete beginners.

NVMe storage and performance

Current shared and WordPress plans use NVMe SSD storage. GoDaddy also promotes performance of up to twice that of selected competitors. This is a marketing comparison rather than a guarantee that an individual website will become exactly twice as fast.

Real speed depends on the data-centre location, shared-server load, PHP workers, theme, plugins, database size, caching and images. After migration, measure TTFB, Core Web Vitals and dashboard responsiveness instead of judging performance only by the storage type.

Backups

GoDaddy provides automatic backups on both shared and managed WordPress hosting, but restoration options differ. Standard hosting restores the account from the previous day. Managed WordPress provides more advanced history, on-demand backups and one-click restoration depending on the plan and regional offer.

A daily backup is sufficient for a typical blog. On an active WooCommerce store, restoring an older database can remove recent orders. Important stores should use more frequent external backups and a solution that avoids overwriting current transactions and customer data.

Website migration

GoDaddy provides automated migration tools for shared hosting and managed WordPress. A WordPress site can first be copied to a temporary domain, tested and then published. Complex servers or custom applications may require a manual migration process.

After migration, test forms, transactional email, SSL, redirects, caching, cron jobs, payment gateways and analytics. Do not cancel the old host until DNS propagation is complete and the new website has been fully verified. Keep your own backup before starting.

Data centres

GoDaddy uses data centres in North America, Europe and Asia. For European audiences, I recommend a European server location to reduce network latency. Managed WordPress also uses Cloudflare CDN to deliver static content from locations closer to visitors.

A CDN improves static delivery but does not replace a nearby origin server for dynamic requests, the WordPress dashboard and database operations. Verify the actual region after setup and measure response times from your target market.

SSL and security

The section-based editor is quick and accessible, but offers less detailed control than WordPress over design, code, databases and extensions. A free version can be tested on a temporary domain, while a custom domain and advanced features require a paid plan.

99.9% uptime

GoDaddy guarantees 99.9% hosting uptime and may provide a credit equal to 5% of the monthly hosting fee for qualifying downtime. The credit is used for future GoDaddy purchases and does not apply to every type of outage.

In a 30-day month, 0.1% can represent approximately 43 minutes of downtime. The guarantee therefore does not mean that a website can never become unavailable. Use independent monitoring for business-critical websites.

I particularly value the ability to manage the entire process from domain registration to launching a website and email in one place. A beginner can buy a domain, build a website with Airo or Website Builder, configure email and contact support without finding several providers.

For WordPress, I would choose a managed plan rather than the cheapest Economy hosting. The managed product provides better security, backup options, malware removal and migration. For an important business website, I would select at least Deluxe because staging has practical value during regular updates.

My main concern is renewal pricing. Economy at €2.19 looks attractive, but renewal at €10.99 substantially changes the value calculation. Compare the total cost over at least two or three years rather than only the first invoice.

Pay attention to add-ons in the cart as well. GoDaddy offers email, security, SSL, marketing and other services. Some are included, some are trials and others are separately billed. Remove anything you do not need and review automatic renewal before paying.

I would choose GoDaddy for a domain portfolio, a simple business website, a new company or a user who wants a single supplier. For a critical WooCommerce store, I would also compare specialist managed WordPress hosts.
