The year 2015 is over. Now is the time to take a look and evaluate what worked and what to take an example of and make it better in 2016. Of course, basically you don’t have to deal with it at all and go back to the successes or failures of the previous year. But, I think that evaluating a year, learning from mistakes and trying to make things better doesn’t have to hurt at all.
1.) New image
New year, new image? What do you think? The “new image” may sound a little drastic, but when will there be a better time for a visible change? Bounce back from the statistics provided by Google Analytics . Analyze what works and what makes sense. On the other hand, change what doesn’t work. Whether it’s design elements, call-to-action elements or graphics. If such a change is too much for you, you may want to try changing the design of the newsletter or sign-up form. Get inspired by current design trends, maybe flat design or so-called Grid Style Layout as an alternative to slides. There are really many options. Link the visual page to the content page. For example, get inspired by our article on how good UX design looks in practice .
2.) Analyze TOP posts and TOP most visited sites
Google Analytics www will also help you significantly with this analysis. The analysis gives you an overview of what was effective, what the visitors of our site reacted to and what, on the contrary, did not interest them so much. Take a closer look at your activity and think about which activities you can use in the future. Maybe they had great success with quality pictures or it was interesting content. Or it was competitions and promotions or quality goods that you sell. All this creates conversions. There are many possibilities. It is necessary to find out what brought the greatest success.
3.) Analyze and improve content
The main pages, such as contact , about us or the home page , in the vast majority have understandably high traffic. If you’re starting to analyze content, start with simpler things. Check the lines to make sure they work and look at the image sizes. Image size control is important. Images that are too large can cause the page to load more slowly than it should. You can easily check the page speed on a pingdom . Keep images in jpg format. For blog posts, analyze which posts were the most readable and find out why it was. Did a unique style, quality, good headline or quality image help you?
4.) Test
Use A / B testing. Before you make random changes, think about A / B testing. Test to catch bugs and see which version is more likely to be more effective.
5.) Plan
Come up with a plan for the new year. Planning is partly a psychological matter, but it can bring a completely different perspective and approach to work and business. Thanks to the plan, you will have a better overview of what you are doing and at the end of the year, all activities will be better evaluated and monitored. You will probably see things more clearly, in other contexts and easier to read between the lines. The plan does not have to be elaborated in detail. You don’t even have to stick to it. All you have to do is stick to it. The plan will help you create strategic content with greater effect. Have a system of things. You may find that you are not as lost as you initially thought 🙂
6.) SEO
I will miss the lessons of what SEO is. Surely you already know this very well, even if you have already read a few articles on wp.sk. What is certain is that SEO is constantly changing and evolving like the weather in the tropics. What was true yesterday may not be true tomorrow. How is your site and SEO optimization? Didn’t you set up SEO last March? Think about it. Before you start making changes, take a look at how effective SEO was done in 2015 . Make sure you have one of the many SEO modules offered on your site. For example, the All-In-One SEO Pack will help you never forget meta description again.
7.) Build a strong contact database
Set your current strategy and goals. Expand your contacts database. MailChimp , for example, which you know very well, will help you. It is a great tool for creating newsletters with many topics and graphic šablón . Give visitors the opportunity to register. You can try the pop-up, the option to download the e-book for free. As the saying goes, you probably don’t like pop-ups, but they work . But nothing needs to be strengthened. Pop-ups can also be used to work and at the same time not to bother you.
8.) Check your security, backup and maintenance
You can do these steps either manually or use the help of a module that will do it automatically for you. Remember to make sure that the security module really works. Do you receive notifications or notifications from him? This information can help you. Watch them. Lastly, don’t forget to tidy up the modules. Throw away those you don’t use.
Keep in mind that whatever you do, even a small change, can have a big impact on your site and its traffic. Don’t lose the potential of your website and work to make it better and better every day 🙂
